This Is My Stop (So I Should Probably Get Off)
Released 13 February
Centered on Andy Watts’ effects-laden cornet, the group navigates "bold soundscapes" (Twisted Soul) that blend New Zealand-inspired atmosphere with a gritty London edge. From deep-pocket grooves to psychedelic improvisation, Rakino Quartet is a high-energy journey through the "Electric-Afro" fringe.
Rakino Quartet crafts an immersive "Electric Afro-Jazz" that bridges the relentless pulse of 70s Lagos with the subterranean, atmospheric weight of Bristol Trip-Hop.
Led by New Zealand-born cornetist Andy Watts, the London-based ensemble transforms the traditional jazz quartet into a vessel for psychedelic exploration.
Born from a period of isolation and a pedalboard of infinite possibilities, the group’s sound is defined by Watts’ effects-drenched cornet—an "underutilised instrument" (FREQ) reimagined through layers of grit, delay, and shimmering reverb textures.
Following their "faultless" 2024 debut The Way Back From Here, the quartet spent Spring 2025 at London’s Lightship 95 studio, refining a more expansive, more conversational sound.
Their forthcoming album, Backwards Into The Beyond, captures the quartet at their most intuitive: deep-pocket grooves colliding with free-wheeling improvisation.
With a series of singles launching throughout 2026, Rakino Quartet continues to navigate bold soundscapes that speak to their global influences.
Andy endorses Eclipse Trumpets, Cornets and Flugelhorns.
